Washington state Attorney General Bob Ferguson, Insurance Commissioner Mike Kreidler and Human Rights Commission (HRC) Executive Director Sharon Ortiz have released a joint letter to Washington state employers, insurance companies and benefit plan administrators regarding healthcare benefits.  The letter applies in Washington state; however, the logic may apply elsewhere, too. Update on Same-Sex Marriage and Civil Unions

CIVIL UNIONS LEGALIZED IN ILLINOIS

On January 31, 2011, Illinois Governor Pat Quinn signed into law a bill that legalizes civil unions.  The new law will take effect on June 1, 2011.  This law entitles civil union partners to enjoy all of the legal rights and obligations of spouses under Illinois law. Read the rest of this entry »
