MORE FMLA REGULATIONS COMING SOON?

Earlier this year, the Department of Labor posted the following update on its web site:

The Wage and Hour Division will initiate rulemaking to implement the new amendments to the military family leave provisions of the Family and Medical Leave Act (FMLA) contained in the National Defense Authorization Act for FY 2010. The Wage and Hour Division will also review implementation of the military family leave amendments that were included in the National Defense Authorization Act for FY 2008, as well as other provisions of the FMLA regulations that were revised and implemented in January 2009. This regulatory initiative assists in achieving the Secretary’s goal of workplace flexibility for family and personal care-giving and, particularly through the job protection and the maintenance of health benefits provisions, helps middle-class families remain in the middle class.

The regulatory agenda calls for proposed regulations to be issued in November.  Federal agencies are notorious for missing deadlines, so don’t hold your breath waiting for these regulations, but stay tuned for more information.
